Final Fantasy Tactics lands on iPhone August 4th

first_imgSquare Enix is one of the larger publisher/developers to embrace the iPhone and App Store platforms. Owners of the iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad have been rewarded with access to Final Fantasy games and Secret of Mana. They are expensive, but then Square Enix can get away with the high prices due to the popularity of its games. Now a new game is set to arrive this week from the Japanese developer, and the price is pushing the limits of acceptability in my opinion. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions will become available on August 4th, the price is a sky high $15.99, which must be one of the highest on the App Store for a game.Final Fantasy Tactics has seen outings on the DS and PSP in recent times, with both games receiving high scores and offering up great turn-based strategy gameplay. Now that gameplay is coming to the App Store, and is based on the PSP version that was released in 2007.Square Enix has confirmed that the game is compatible with the 3GS (but not the 3G), and that the iPad version will take an extra month of development, so we should see it the first week of September. There’s also no multiplayer and no add-ons available.Because you could be playing this on an iPhone that receives calls, the game has also been given an autosave feature meaning your game state isn’t lost.At $15.99 this is a very expensive game for the App Store, but one that fans of the tactics games may be willing to pay. Here’s a gameplay video to help you decide if it’s worth it.More at the Square Enix Facebook page, via GameSpotlast_img read more
