WHITTIER – A woman was robbed at knifepoint Wednesday afternoon in Uptown Whittier, near the Christian Science Reading room at Bailey Street and Greenleaf Avenue, authorities said. Whittier police Sgt. Kent Miller said at about 3:05 p.m. a young man with a knife approached the victim and demanded money. The woman gave the robber money and was not hurt. No immediate arrest was made Wednesday, Miller said. Auditions for Irish play announced WHITTIER – Whittier Community Theater will hold auditions at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 9 and 10 for Brian Friel’s “Dancing at Lughnasa.” The auditions will be in the Whittier Center Theater, 7630 Washington Ave. The play, directed by Regan Hunter, is about the five Mundy sisters who live in 1930s Ireland. Regan says that Irish accents are a must for those auditioning. The character parts are Kate, a 50-ish school teacher; Maggie, a 40-ish, fun-loving homemaker; Agnes, in her 40s, quiet and serious; Rose, 30-ish but mentally much younger; Chris, the youngest; Father Jack, their older brother; Gerry, 30s, Michael’s Welsh father; and Michael, the narrator of the story. The class, for students ages 8 to 15, will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, beginning in January. Classes will be held for 10 weeks at Friendly Hills Lanes in Whittier.
