ILOILO City – The city government iswaiting for funds from the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise ZoneAuthority (TIEZA) to start the rehabilitation of five public plazas in thedistricts of Jaro, La Paz, City Proper (Plaza Libertad), Molo, and Arevalo. According to Councilor Jay Treñas,TIEZA’s one more requirement from the city government – a SangguniangPanlungsod (SP) resolution endorsing the request of Mayor Jerry Treñas to TIEZAto provide funds for the plaza rehabilitation – was fulfilled last week whenthe SP passed such resolution. “We will coordinate with TIEZA para ma-download na ang funds,” said Treñas. Mandurriao district’s relatively newplaza is not included the rehabilitation program. In his letter to TIEZA, Mayor JerryTreñas requested funds for Jaro Plaza and Jaro belfry amounting to P75 million;La Paz Plaza – P65 million; Arevalo – P50 million; Molo Plaza – P20 million;and Plaza Libertad – P20 million. “It is the continuing policy of thelocal government unit of Iloilo City to provide its constituents with goodpublic spaces as venues for enjoying outdoor recreation, community, and promotionof public health and safety to protect the environment and attract tourists andinvestors,” read part of the city mayor’s letter to TIEZA./PNlast_img
